Prayer to God is an art, not a science. There is no combination of words, postures, or traditions that guarantees a specific answer. Prayer is a drawing near to God, bringing ourselves closer to our Creator. Jesus’s disciples also asked this question, and Jesus gives this answer:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be your name.
Know who it is you are praying to. God is holy, and He is the only one
worthy to pray to.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
On earth, as it is in heaven.
This confession recognizes that we are not in control of our life, only God
knows all things. This prayer draws us closer to God’s sovereign will.
Give us this day our daily bread,
In prayer, we neither dwell on the past or hope for the future. Prayer can
bring us closer to God when we become content in the present.
And forgive us our debts,
As we also have forgiven our debtors.
Prayer should bring us into humility, not pride. Forgiving others and
asking forgiveness brings us near to God’s heart.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
The hope we have in prayer is remembering that God is with us no matter what. God is close to His people and cares for them unconditionally, no matter the situation they find themselves in.
